Shepherd’s Care
Which one of you, if he has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go look for the one that is lost until he finds it (Luke 15:4)?
The Good Shepherd cares in a way that defies the logic of our world. Ninety-nine percentis considered good—but not good enough. We don’t want anyone to fall through the cracks if we can do something about the situation.
Our efforts of Shepherd’s Care are to overcome common obstacles that inhibit the sharing of Christ’s love with others. The following is a list of people or certain circumstances that may fall through the cracks if we aren’t watching:
· Children and adults with various special needs—physical, cognitive, emotional, social, etc.
· Parents and family members of those with special needs (including siblings)
· Children and adults in foster care or group homes
· Those disconnected from our community due to disability or illness (confined at home or a care facility without the ability to travel)
When we serve together, we can overcome barriers to effectively minister to others. Although we can learn from experts in related fields, one does not need a medical degree or classroom experience to impact the community affected by disabilities. Ministry happens in relationships. The one trait that people need to bring to serve the kingdom through Shepherd’s Care is friendship. Some can teach, some sing, some serve cookies and we can all be friends. If you can join us for any facet of this ministry, you will be serving with others who care.
