Budget Vote & Membership Renewal

June 1-7, 2026: Budget Vote
June 1-30, 2026: Membership Renewal

All members are invited to participate in two important facets of church life at Scottsdale Bible:

  1. We are asking you to affirm the proposed budget for the 2026/2027 ministry year which starts on July 1.

  2. You will have the opportunity to renew your church membership for the coming year.

Members will receive an email on June 1 with links to vote on the budget and renew or update their membership status.

Financial Overview of 2026/2027
(this year)

Our budget for this financial year, concluding on June 30, reflected a 5% increase over the previous year. Current giving is 2% higher than the budget. This is a such a blessing, and we are excited to end the year ahead of budget in both contributions and expenses.

Looking Ahead

The budget for the coming year represents a 5% increase over our current year which will resource the programs and services that will allow us to continue having significant Kingdom impact at our current four campuses plus our new Tempe campus. The budget has undergone prayerful review by our Executive Leadership, Finance Council, and Elder Board. Though this budget represents a faith-filled and bold look ahead; as always, we have a strong commitment to live within the confines of what is provided to the largest extent possible, and we have various ways to adjust to a lower level of congregational support, if needed.

How and Where We Will Spend Projected Funds

Programs and Ministry:  Our program expenses have gone up due to the cost of food for Alpha classes that will be offered through Groups and YTH. The meals help set the table for meaningful relationships, where trust is built and people begin to take real steps toward Jesus. We also have an increased cost for our weekly YTH Food and Fellowship lunches. We will continue to intentionally engage with students that don’t know the Lord on school campuses. This is our biggest front door into our ministries and has proven to be a great evangelistic program. We have clubs in 12 local high schools and eight middle schools with more than 2,100 students attending.

Staff: In the coming year, we are planning for our staffing salaries and benefits to comprise roughly 59% of our expected income. We are still within the norms of what is typical of other churches in this regard.

Capital Investments: We are thankful to have already made some major repairs and improvements over the past several years, and we have planned a significant amount for the coming year. This is an area where we can hold off on spending if the funds become limited.

2026-2027 Proposed Budget: $31.3M

This graph shows a $31.3M proposed spending plan plus $3.8M in direct support missions and outreach giving, totaling $35.1M. Global, Local, and Missions Outreach comprise 13% of the total.

Thank You!

As always, we look to God for the provision and resources to accomplish His plans and purposes. We’re grateful for your continued trust, your partnership in changing lives, and your sacrificial giving that is being multiplied in ways that impact eternity.

Volunteer at VBS

June 8–12 | 9am-12pm | All campuses

We need many extra sets of hands to make this year’s VBS a success. Consider helping kids discover who God is and His plan for their lives by serving in one of the following areas listed below.

*Childcare for ages 0-5 will be available for all volunteers with young children.

Adult Guides (Ages 18+):
Adult Volunteer Guides will check in/check out the same group of kids each day of VBS and will guide them through the rotations and sit with them during rallies. They will develop relationships with their team, maintaining a fun and safe environment for the kids to learn about Jesus.

Special Needs Buddy (14+ years old)
A Special Needs Buddy will assist a child who has special needs, helping to engage and redirect them throughout the morning activities to ensure a fun and meaningful time at VBS. Special Needs Buddies will receive additional training and tools to support a successful experience with their assigned child.

JHM Student Volunteers (Entering grades 6*-8):
Junior High Student (JHM) Volunteers will enjoy an entry-level opportunity to serve in the church as helpers to Adult Volunteers. JHM Volunteers may be assigned to either groups of kids in kindergarten through 1st grade, or as an assistant in Rotation rooms. Assignments will be made at each campus by DK staff. This is a great opportunity to serve the Lord and to help kids have an amazing VBS experience.
* Students entering 6th grade must serve alongside a parent.

HSM Student Volunteers (Entering grades 9-12):
High School Student (HSM) Volunteers will enjoy serving in the church as helpers to Adult Volunteers and in additional leadership roles. HSM Volunteers may be assigned to either groups of kids in grades 2-5 or as an assistant in Rotation rooms. Assignments will be made at each campus by DK staff. This is a great opportunity to serve the Lord and to help kids have an amazing VBS experience.

Nurse Station:
Our Nurse Station Adult Volunteers will remain in our check-in area throughout the morning to be “on call” in emergency situations. They will be responsible for administering minor first aid, evaluating additional first-aid needs, and communicating with the DK staff and Security Team about any incidents that occur on site. We prefer to have adult volunteers who have advanced first-aid skills or medical field experience, such as nurses or doctors.

Bible Review:
Our Bible Review Adult Volunteers will lead lesson discussions, activities, and challenges to reinforce the message taught during the opening rally. This is a fun and engaging role for those who truly love to teach and engage kids in a fun and interactive way.

Craft/Activities:
Our Craft/Activities Adult Volunteers will lead kids through themed crafts or fun activities every day. Depending on the campus you serve, you may have the same craft/activity all five days or you may rotate through five different activities during the week. We prepare crafts, stem activities, and team fun that is simple and engaging for kids in an age-appropriate way.

Games:
Our Games Adult Volunteers will lead kids through games to play every day. We prepare games for age-appropriate groups that are fun, team building, and downright silly! We want all kids to have an opportunity to whoop and holler for the Lord!

Snack and Chat:
Our Snack and Chat Adult Volunteers will set up snacks and then lead kids in table discussion topics. This allows time to build relationships with other kids on their team and have fun and engaging discussions.

Wherever Needed:
This Adult Volunteer is willing to help wherever they are needed.

Childcare Volunteer (Fountain Hills only):
Our Childcare Volunteers will work with children under the age of five who belong to VBS Volunteers and staff. They will check in and check out kids daily. We will have a themed schedule of activities that are engaging and age-appropriate. Childcare Volunteers are required to arrive prior to volunteers to welcome the kids to their room and stay until the last child is picked up.

CREATE Camp

Monday, June 15 – Friday, June 19 | 9am-12pm | Shea

Cost: $50

CREATE is a five-day experience where students entering grades 6-12 can discover and hone their God-given artistic talents in a community that encourages collaboration and fun and equips them to serve the Kingdom. We have seen God do amazing things in the many years of this camp, and we trust He will continue that work this year.

Classes are taught by a combination of Scottsdale Bible Worship and Creative Arts staff and talented leaders in their fields. Each student will choose one of the following tracks to participate in throughout the week.

  • Audio* – This class offers an overview of audio flow, effects, input devices and mixing techniques to provide the basic ability to mix vocals and bands. Students may get hands-on experience mixing and critiquing mixes.

  • Creative Writing – Learn the basics of creative writing as well as how to read, study, and interpret Scripture in meaningful and creative ways. Students will trace the narrative arch of well-known Bible stories, study the character development of main characters, and rewrite these stories from the perspective of one of the characters.

  • Dance – Participants will choreograph and prepare a dance routine to a selected worship song utilizing various styles of dance.

  • Drama – Students will learn theater and drama techniques in a class setting engaging with other students.

  • Intro to Drums – This class is for students who have minimal percussion experience. Various drums/percussion instruments will be used in teaching technique and rhythmic interpretation with a short rotation on drum set.

  • Intro to Guitar – This is a great place to start for anyone interested in learning to play the guitar. We will introduce some basic techniques, music theory, and chord forms. Students will also work toward learning two worship songs throughout the week.

  • Intro to Keys/Piano – This track is for students new to playing keyboards in a band. They will learn basics of chord reading, how to choose sounds, and ensemble skills.

  • Lighting* – Learn about lighting instruments and programming the lighting computer as well as the thinking behind how lighting is used in worship settings.

  • Live Video* – Receive training on cameras, switching, shading, and techniques. Students will learn how to pan, zoom, and tilt, as well as the philosophy behind mixing for worship.

  • Photography – Learn photography principles through hands-on projects in nature as well as photographing the various camp activities, all with an emphasis on integrating faith and art through photography. Students need to provide their own DSLR camera for the week.

  • Songwriting – Students will explore and develop their songwriting skills by learning and practicing the fundamentals of lyric, melody, harmony, rhythm, and structure. Their week will culminate in the completion of an original song.

  • Strings & Wind Ensemble – Students who play in their school band or orchestra are invited to learn ensemble concepts in a variety of musical styles and settings. They will also explore improvisational concepts and opportunities. Participants must have two years’ experience and bring their own instruments.

  • Video Production for Social Media – Learn the basics of camera operation (exposure, composition, camera movement, audio recording) and video post-production (media management, editing, graphics, sound design). Students will capture CREATE footage using their phone camera and edit short story-driven social media posts. Participants must have their own smartphones with the free Blackmagic Camera and CapCut Video Editor apps downloaded.

  • Visual Arts – Multiple mediums of art will be used as students complete individual art pieces focusing on the gift of creativity.

  • Vocals* – Students are taught vocal style, technique, and expression as they learn current worship songs to engage the heart.

  • Worship Band 1 & 2* – Students who are already proficient on guitars, keyboards, or drums will learn new music and techniques.

We believe the next generation of makers is born out of experiences like these in our students' younger years, and we look forward to seeing God work in their lives!

To ensure we can best teach and facilitate each CREATE track, class sizes are limited and spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you sign up for a class that is full, you may join a waitlist or register for a different class. If and when spots become available, we will start at the beginning of the waitlist and work down as places open up. There will be no refunds after June 9, and there is no walk-up registration.

* Students in these tracks should plan to participate in Scottsdale Bible's worship services on Sunday, June 21.

Elder Board Candidates

Christopher Charles

Christopher Charles

Christopher is an Arizona native and grew up in the church but did not surrender his life to Christ and discover the abundant life that comes from completely trusting Jesus until law school. Today, he serves as the Founder and Managing Partner of Provident Law®. He also serves as a Director for the National Christian Legal Society. Christopher had the opportunity to serve on a mission trip to Spain with Scottsdale Bible that focused on sharing the gospel with “pilgrims” along the Camino de Santiago trail. He and his wife, Gabi, have four boys: Noah, Asher,  Lucas, and Titus, and they enjoy co-leading a small group Bible study. His family has been richly blessed by Scottsdale Bible’s marriage ministry, and they pray for continued opportunities to bless other couples as they have been blessed.

Tim Kimmel

Tim Kimmel

Tim put his faith in Jesus at a young age but really committed his life to Him in his teenaged years. Around that time, he met a girl named Darcy who had recently given her life to Jesus, too. They ultimately married and had four children, who have given them eleven grandchildren to love. After graduating from Dallas Seminary, they moved to Arizona and Tim became Scottsdale Bible's first staff youth pastor, serving from 1976-1980. Although he's spent most of his ministry career speaking and writing books on Christian marriage and parenting as the Founder of Grace Based Families, he and Darcy continue to serve at Scottsdale Bible. Tim taught the Faithful Families class for 12 years and has been a featured speaker in the Timothy Leadership Training, Men's Ministry, First Five, and Common Ground. He has also filled the pulpit on various Sundays over the years.

Kory Schuknecht

Kory Schuknecht

Kory accepted Christ as a teenager at Saguaro High School through the ministry of Young Life. He has a Bachelor of Science in Business from Arizona State University, and a Master’s degree from Phoenix Seminary. Kory has served as an Elder for Scottsdale Bible on four previous occasions. Over the years, he taught and served in Discovery Kids, High School, College, Small Groups, and several enrichment classes. He also served as a pastor on staff at Scottsdale Bible for more than 14 years. Kory and his wife Gail have four adult children and eleven grandchildren, and they have been at Scottsdale Bible since 1976.

You May Be Wondering…

  • The member-elected Nominating Committee meets throughout the year to consider men from all our campuses who have demonstrated godly character, integrity, service, and other biblical qualifications for eldership. They then recommend qualified candidates to the current Elder Board whose members pray over the list, and after further deliberations, formalize the candidate list for final approval by you, the members.

  • Yes, it's important that you do, unless you have strong objections to an individual. Our hope is that you have confidence in your church’s leadership and their selection of qualified candidates. If you have concerns or questions, please contact us.

  • Generally, we take note of people who are actively engaged in the church with their time, talent, and treasure and have shown themselves to be wise leaders. It is from that pool of people that the Nominating Committee selects leaders to recommend as Elder candidates.

  • The Elders were sensitive to the season we are in with a new senior pastor and all the change that comes with it, concluding that this is not the year to bring on a new Elder.

  • Elders serve four-year terms and must be off the Elder Board for at least one year before they can be elevated to the role again.

  • Being an Elder at Scottsdale Bible is a tall order and is not for the faint of heart! Elders generally meet monthly as a full Board. Each member also sits on at least one of our board committees (Risk, Finance, Admin, Nominating, etc.) which generally meet once per month as well. The Elders also meet once a month for 'Soul Care,' a meeting where they tend to the spiritual needs of one another. In addition to this, Elders are expected to be active in the life of the church.

  • Scott Anderson, our Executive Pastor, would be happy to discuss this vote or anything pertaining to our church’s operations with you. His email is: sanderson@scottsdalebible.com

  • You can send your recommendation to elders@scottsdalebible.com. Each name submitted will be reviewed and included in the process.
