CREATE Camp
June 16–20 | 9am-12pm | Shea Campus
Cost: $50
CREATE is a five-day experience where students entering grades 6-12 can discover and hone their God-given artistic talents in a community that encourages collaboration and fun and equips them to serve the Kingdom. We have seen God do amazing things in the many years of this camp, and we trust He will continue that work this year.
Classes are taught by a combination of SBC Worship and Creative Arts staff and talented leaders in their fields. Each student will choose one of the following classes to participate in throughout the week.
Classes:
Dance – Students choreograph and prepare a dance routine to a selected worship song utilizing various styles of dance.
Drama – Students will learn theater and drama techniques in a class setting engaging with other students.
Intro to Drums – This class is for students who have minimal percussion experience. Various drums/percussion instruments will be used in teaching technique and rhythmic interpretation with a short rotation on the drum set.
Intro to Guitar – This is a great place to start for anyone interested in learning to play the guitar. We will introduce some basic techniques, music theory, and chord forms. Students will also work toward learning two worship songs throughout the week.
Intro to Keys/Piano – This class is for students new to playing keyboards in a band. They will learn the basics of chord reading, how to choose sounds, and ensemble skills.
Photography – Students learn photography principles through hands-on projects in nature as well as photographing the various camp activities, all with an emphasis on integrating their faith and art through photography. Students need to provide their own DSLR camera for the week.
Production* – In these beginning and advanced classes, students are mentored by our SBC Production Staff members in the areas of audio, video, and lighting. Students will choose one of these tracks and must be in grades 7-12.
Audio* – This class offers an overview of audio flow, effects, input devices, and mixing techniques to provide the basic ability to mix vocals and bands. You may get hands-on experience mixing and critiquing mixes.
Lighting* – Learn about lighting instruments and programming the lighting computer as well as the thinking behind how lighting is used in worship settings.
Live Video* – Receive training on cameras, switching, shading, and techniques. The students will learn how to pan, zoom, and tilt, as well as the philosophy behind mixing for worship.
Strings and Wind Ensemble – Students who play in their school band or orchestra are invited to learn ensemble concepts in a variety of musical styles and settings and also explore improvisational concepts and opportunities. Participants must have two years’ experience and bring their own instruments.
Video Production for Social Media – Students will learn the basics of camera operation (exposure, composition, camera movement, audio recording) and video post-production (media management, editing, graphics, sound design). They will capture CREATE footage using their phone camera and edit short story-driven social media posts. Students must have their own smartphones with the Blackmagic Camera and CapCut Video Editor apps downloaded. Both apps are free.
Visual Arts – Multiple mediums of art are utilized as the students complete individual art pieces focusing on the gift of creativity.
Vocals* – Students are taught vocal style, technique, and expression as they learn current worship songs to engage the heart.
Worship Band* – Students who are already proficient on guitars, keyboards, or drums will be placed in separate bands and learn new music and techniques.
To ensure we can best teach and facilitate each class, we are limiting class sizes, and spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you sign up for a class that is full, you may join a waitlist or register for a different class. If and when spots become available, we will start at the beginning of the waitlist and work down as places open up.
We believe the next generation of makers is born out of experiences like these in our students' younger years, and we look forward to seeing God work in their lives!
There will be no refunds after June 9, and there is no walk-up registration.
* Students in these classes should plan to participate in SBC's worship services on Sunday, June 22.

SendYTH
You can be a part of YTH!
At SBC, we’re passionate about raising up the next generation of missions-minded leaders. This summer, many of our students are answering God’s call to share the hope of Christ and serve others across the globe.
Each student is responsible for raising his or her own support, and your generosity can help send them. By giving, you’re not only empowering their journey—you’re becoming part of what God is doing around the world.

Alpha
Thursdays, September 11 – November 20 | 6:30pm-8:30pm | All Campuses
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to ask life’s big questions:
What is my purpose?
Who is Jesus and why does He matter?
Why is there suffering?
Alpha is a series of conversations that explore life, spirituality, and faith in a fun, nonjudgmental, and open environment. Each session includes dinner, a short video, and a discussion where you can talk about your thoughts and questions with people from all different backgrounds. Try it the first night and see if Alpha is right for you. No strings attached, no pressure, and no cost.
Invite a friend or family member to join you!
